Sam Skelton
Born in Glasgow in 1949, Sam Skelton began his career as a graphic designer & studied at Glasgow School of Art. Continuously painting throughout his career in design, Sam later embraced the demand for his work and painted full time until his death in 2022.
The simplicity yet stark figures painted by Skelton show a rich heritage & insight into his childhood growing up in industrial Kirkintilloch. This can be seen woven through many of his creations. Throughout his images are children playing on the street which is familiar with the paintings of Joan Eardley and photographs from Oscar Marzaroli.
Skelton was a master at capturing gritty surrounding and the low light of Scotland’s gruelling winters, reflecting in the tough conditions of industrial Scotland.
